Anyone have unusual vacation ideas?

I Love Weekends asked: We’re planning something next spring anywhere in the US (not Hawaii or Alaska) and would like to do something unusual (we’re middle-aged…nothing too adventurous). Would like to stay away from real busy cities such as Chicago or New York…something more simple and relaxing…not extremely expensive either. Any ideas?
