Perfect winter vacation?

I am planning to take most of January off. I live in Alaska, so any place else would be warm by comparison. I want someplace slightly urban with good food, good beer, good history, and relatively inexpensive to escape to for a couple of weeks. The boyfriend and I are on the rocks at the moment, so it has to be a place I can enjoy solo, if it comes to that.

considering 1 of 3 trips (alaska, italy or hawaii)?

When do Alaskans go on vacation?

Okay so I know in most of the world, the break from school is in the summer. In alaska however, it’s dark in the winter and the sun is out in the summer. I could see why the vacation would be in winter, so people could go out in the summer, but isn’t it a little hard to run schools and such when it’s dark all the time? Wouldn’t some people want to get away to where it’s sunny during the winter? Does anyone know when Alaskans go on vacation? Thanks much!

What should I do ? Go on vacation , or be with my daughter when she has her baby?

My husband and I have been planning for a yr to go to Alaska to visit his brother. Then I found out that my daughter is due to have her baby at the same time. This is her 2nd child, I was with her for the first one. I really want to be with her but already committed to go with my husband.
I have talked to her and she said she would understand, my husband said he would understand if I want to be with her.
She is married and lives in a different state.Has alot of support where she is at, but I would feel guilty for not being with her. I also have 2 step-children who will be going with us to Alaska, ages 14 & 16. And they really want me to go to Alaska.
