At 16 months old that child can neither appreciate Hawaii nor Alaska. As a matter of fact, this will be a vacation for you and your husband, the baby is along for the ride. Plan the vacation with your husband then incorporate a zoo to visit somewhere in your plans. Also somewhere with a pool where baby can enjoy and “tire himself out”. Most big zoos (Phoenix, etc) also have petting zoos within them so no need to go to the farm too.
When my son was 17 months we took him camping - it was the middle of August, extremely hot, and there were tons of insects, but we all had a blast! I kept him slathered in sunblock all day long, and for the bugs, I used off clear water (it has picardin in it rather than deet, so most doctors will tell you that it’s safe for children 6months and up.) And I don’t know a campground that isn’t family friendly, so if my son was loud, or had a meltdown, everyone wasn’t staring at us. And being constantly outside getting lots of fresh air didn’t hurt either - he slept so well that week. Whatever you do, go somewhere that welcomes children and has a few kid friendly activities. Hope you find someplace fun!
At 16 months, the best place to vacation would be a place with wide open spaces that’s also relaxing…like the beach. Since baby would have just learned how to walk, he would love walking and playing in the sand. Or any resort that has a big grassy area, again so baby can walk and play.
A lot of driving is tough for babies because they’ll go stir crazy. Long flights are also tough on babies. As far as seeing animals go, my son at 16 months wasn’t really very interested.
Hawaii is a really great option.
Hope that helps…have fun.
regards,
mari
Save the money and enjoy your local attractions. Maybe in a few years when your baby can enjoy and remember the vacation go somewhere fun and exciting!
Try Branson, MO, there are so many different things to do. Silver Dollar City will keep your little one so entertained with all of the different animals including a petting zoo which includes chickens, sheep, ducks, goats, usually a calf, etc. in a farm like setting, and child sized rides that you can take the baby on. There are frontier type craftsmen doing all types of things and many types of foods. White Water has many different features that appeal to all ages including wading ponds for toddlers. There are 4 and 5 star hotels and restaurants, too. Springfield-Branson regional airport serves this area and Bass Pro Shops is headquartered in Springfield. It is also a major attraction for the whole family. Eureka Springs, Arkansas is only a short drive from Branson and is rich in culture and history (lots of shopping, too). So, whether you plan to be here a long weekend or several weeks the Ozarks offers plenty of fun and great weather! I know, I have lived 20 miles from Springfield for the past 29 years!!
