What to do in Alaska?
asked:
My family and I are taking a vacation in June and July to Alaska. We can go pretty much anywhere so there are no limites except for the expense. We really want to see some wildlife. Please tell us what you recommend!

Consider using Juneau as a homebase, and making excursions from there. I try to visit for a week each summer, and have no trouble spotting eagles and whales without effort. You’ll find easily-accessible trails, abundant wildlife, friendly locals, and easy access to float planes and ferries to take you out to other Southeast Alaska communities.
Tip: Book lodging NOW to beat the summer tourism influx. You might also make some ferry reservations, too.
I would use Anchorage as my homebase. That was you have driving access to all areas of the state - and if you chose to visit one of the waterlocked towns (such as Juneau) you can easily pick that for a day. Otherwise - if Juneau is home base - you have to ferry out to go anywhere else.
You can drive to Denali from Anchorage and take a tour. Or ride the train.
Make sure you book a cruise while visiting - I hear Stan Stephens is the best glacier/wildlife viewing cruise.
If you do come up my way (Fairbanks) check out Pioneer Park - Riverboat Discovery - Chena Hot Springs Resort. If you have children consider visiting North Pole & Santa Claus house. These are places that are tourism related - although, none of them are really spectacular.
Seward is a nice town - has a Sea Life center and many tours leave from there.
Valdez is a must see. It is beautiful!! Waterfalls, glaciers wou can walk to, fishing charters and cruise type tours. Search the web under town names that interest you, they have tons of info!
Enjoy your visit!!!! If you have more quetions feel free to write direct.
