Which trip (Oahu vs. Alaska) do you recommend in July?
SweetSoftwareGrl asked:
I have some time to (finally) take a vacation in July. I’ve traveled the majority of the lower 48 states, but would like to either visit Hawaii or Alaska. If I went to Alaska, I would take a Seattle to Alaska cruise. I’m an active person, so I would not have any problems for hiking and so forth. However, I have to choose one over the over.

I would think that if you want to go to Alaska, July would be the month to do it. Best weather and chance to do outdoor activities. Oahu is nice all year round, so you can go there anytime.
hawaii any day over alaska
I recommend Alaska, it’s a great time to be there, but the cruises are better in the month of june, after you may find yourself sailing in constant fog. The inside passage cruise is long and the stop offs are relatively the same, and once in Anchorage you can take several one day cruises that area beautiful. I would recommend to fly to Anchorage and rent a motor home or camper. You can sleep everywhere by the road or in rest areas and will be less costly than hotels, which run around 150$ per night. I found on the net a book that costs 100$ but you get 2 for 1 on rooms activities etc, it saved us a fortune (around 1500$). I strongly recommend to stay at the Fireweed Station Inn, Tom and Hobbs are great hosts. It’s in Talkeetna, where you can take a flight around Mt Mckenley (also 2 for 1 in the book).
